How to take on the Rainbow Mountain like a boss

Turquoise, scarlet, and mustard colored sediments drape down Rainbow Mountain, or Vinicuna, and give the mountain its striking appearance.
Nestled in a remote region of the Andes Mountains, Rainbow Mountain was once a spectacle only to be admired by trekkers along the Ausangate Trek. But now you can witness this display of natural beauty in all its glory on a shorter 1- or 2-day hiking tour.
“Rainbow Mountain is one of my top experiences in Peru,” says David, our expert travel advisor, who returned from the 1-day tour earlier this year.

Sacsayhuaman

Cultural authorities have condemned the recent discovery of four propaganda drawings on walls of the archaeological site Sacsayhuaman in Cusco.

Security guards at the Sacsayhuman Archaeological Park found four drawings at the Puca Pucara and Puqro sections and immediately filed complaints with the Prosecutor.
Chief of the archaeological site, Marco del Pezo, informed the vandalism was made by spray paint as seen in the photos.
Since the discovery, the local Prosecutor has demanded a thorough investigation to identify and punish those responsible for the drawings.
Three of the drawings were made at the Puca Pucara section of Sacsayhuman. One of the drawings measures 6 meters long and 70 centimeters in height. The drawings allude to a candidate running for Congress and all measure similar in size.
The fourth was drawn in the Puqro section, measures 4 meters long and takes the same form as the three at Puca Pucara.
The Director of Culture of Cusco, Daniel Maravi, condemned the defacement of the Inca architecture and confirmed that the walls will be cleaned promptly.

Salkantay trek spectacular

Want to take the adventurous route to one of the most popular touristic areas? Salkantay is every backpackers’ fantasy.
If you choose to forgo the conventional routes and opt instead the alternative routes, Salkantay Trek is the one you should take for your upcoming trip to Machu Picchu. For five days you will walk under the magnificent mountain Salkantay, one of the highest and most stunning in the Peruvian Andes, giving you a unique experience for those who dare to spend an adventure to find the Apus (mountains).
In the Quechua language Salkantay means “Savage Mountain” and is a mountain of 6,271 meters above sea level; it is higher than any peak in North America.
The tour begins near the village of Mollepata and finishes just below Machu Picchu in the village of Aguas Calientes. The trail passes through the glacier Humantay lagoon and several Andean communities.
Going up the Apacheta at 4,590 m., hikers can see three mountains: Salkantay, Humantay and Huayanay. After several hours, hikers can reach Rayan-Niyoc or Chaullay.
The Salkantay path is an alternative route to the traditional Inca Trail and is a cutting edge experience for adventure travelers looking for excitement and natural beauty. The best time to explore this route in Peru is from March to November.

Machu Picchu Day Trip From Cusco

Are you planning to visit Peru? So, one of the destinations that you must have in mind is to visit the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. And of course, there are many ways to visit it, one of them is through the famous Inca Trail, it can also be reached by bus followed by a walk along the train tracks, and finally, the best way to get to Machu Picchu is by catching a comfortable train. In this post, we will talk about a  Machu Picchu day trip from Cusco by train.

Before planning your trip, you may want to know a little more about the weather that features Cusco and Machu Picchu, which will be very useful for preparing your visit.

We have 2 very marked seasons during the year:
  1. Rainy Season. – Also known as the “low season”, it covers the months of November to March. It is characterized by the presence of rain and by the reduced presence of travelers (ideal for those who want to avoid the crowds and take advantage of deals).
  2. Dry season.– It is characterized by sunny days and very cold nights (up to -5 ° C). It’s also known as the high season by the enormous amount of visitors who arrive at Machu Picchu. It covers from May to September.

Once you have identified the season in which to visit Machu Picchu, then it is time to prepare your day trip to Machu Picchu.

There are 2 train companies that offer the route to Machu Picchu, one is Peru Rail and the other Inca Rail. The main difference between these two brands is the frequency of their trains, nevertheless, both services and rates are quite similar.

Two train stations are available, one in Poroy (25 min from Cusco) and the other from Ollantaytambo (1 hour and a half from Cusco). If you have several days, we recommend that you visit the Sacred Valley and spend a night there, it will allow you to get used to the altitude (see more about altitude sickness in this post) since the Sacred Valley is lower than Cusco (2800 meters above sea level), and you’ll take the train from Ollantaytambo station the next day. If by the contrary, you have only a few days, then you can start your day trip to Machu Picchu from the station of Poroy.
